PNR Spreading Holiday Cheer

December 2021 has been a month full of fun and community service for our Pleasanton North Rotary Club. We had some fun meetings, many guests, and had the opportunity to be of service to our community.

We started off with our PNR Holiday Party, graciously hosted by Herb and Cathy Ritter at their home on Walnut Lane, (aka Christmas Tree Lane in December). The house was decorated perfectly, complete with Santa and his sleigh landing on the rooftop. Great food, drinks and company were enjoyed by members and guests.

Our final meetings of the month were well attended and gave us a chance to collect Toys for Tots as well as Diapers for Hively. Our generous club came through for both. In addition, many of our members donated mattress toppers and weighted blankets to Goodness Village to help the residents enjoy a comforting and restful sleep.

Our final meeting this year was at Chianti Reserve on Main Street. The food and service were spectacular, and we enjoyed our annual Poker Tournament well into the afternoon.

We participated in “Wreath’s Across Pleasanton”, which is part of the greater event “Wreath’s Across America”. Several of our members joined others in the community at the Veteran’s Hall on December 11th to make wreaths to place on veterans’ graves at the Pioneer Cemetery in Pleasanton. On Saturday, December 20th we went to the Cemetery and participated in a heartfelt ceremony to thank our Veterans for their service and ultimate sacrifice. We then proceeded to place a wreath on each grave in the cemetery marked as a veteran. In the memorial speech, it was noted that a person dies twice; once when they take their last breath and again when they are no longer remembered. We were sure to say each veteran’s name, rank, and service along with a heart felt thank you as we placed the wreaths. It was a cold clear morning, but our hearts were warm as our time was well spent that day with many other members of our community.

A group of PNR members braved the cold again to go out caroling to some of our loved Rotary members to spread holiday cheer. Our first stop was at Paul Jensen’s house where we presented him with a new Wheelchair for Christmas and enjoyed caroling and cookies with him and his family.

Next stop was caroling and a quick visit with Ron and Ledi Hyde. We then took our carols over the Cherry’s and serenaded Debbie and her Family. We surprised Mike Darby on our next stop, but once it was clear we weren’t robbers he came out and was happy to see so many Rotary friends. Our last stop was Sunol to visit Marlene Rebello. We got to meet one of her dogs and were welcomed into her historic bar for a few drinks. A few of our Rotarians felt right at home bartending, there’s a surprise. It was a terrific night and we enjoyed bringing some friendship to some special club members.

Last was a meet up at Cellar Door on December 28th to meet former PNR member Lara Golden and one of our exchange students from Germany, Laura Klein. It was a wonderful time and a great PNR turnout.
