Several of our Rotarians came out this past weekend to support Operation School Bell, which the Assitance League of Amador Valley puts on. This event provides clothing to underserved kids grades K-5 at Titel 1 schools. PNR had six volunteers assist in shopping with the kids at Khol’s in Pleasanton and reading books with them. The books were made possible through donations at Porky’s Pizza Palace of Pleasanton (thank you to our amazing Rotarian Nick Valenziano). Volunteers were Tom Powers, Patty Powers, Tami Henegan, Darcy DeCoite, Pattie Brohard, and Billy Buckley. Each year, Operation School Bell clothes over 400 students. Children who go to school without adequate clothing often suffer from low self-esteem. Students (K-5th grade) are identified by Livermore, Pleasanton, and Dublin public school teachers and counselors. The children are invited to come to Kohl’s at a designated time to shop with a volunteer. They are outfitted from head to toe with the assistance of one of our caring member volunteers.
While at Kohl’s, each student receives the following:
· Pants, tops, warm jackets, and other clothing items
· A pair of shoes and socks
· A reading book
