Pleasanton North Rotary President Dave Pitcher presented awards to five members at Demotion ceremonies June 18th to recognize efforts that helped our club stay strong, while still serving the community during the past pandemic year.
Mark Linsky received the Dick Howard Cup as the PNR’s 2020-21 Rotarian of the Year. Pitcher cited Mark’s outstanding computer and telecommunications skills and interest in youth services for the value he added to PNR in 2020-21. He was a sounding board for the president for technological issues, overcame numerous technical challenges for District 5970’s first-ever virtual study speech contest, and created a new outlet for PNR youth services with involvement in the Junior Achievement business skills development program.
Sergeant of Arms Deb Covert, Song Master Jim Ott ,Treasurer Tom Powers, and Program Chair Ron Sutton were each honored with President’s Awards for Outstanding Service.
Deb gained distinction for managing the club’s Zoom meetings and implementing Zoom breakout rooms, which encouraged social interaction. She also chaired the outstanding work of the Demotion Organizing Committee with members Tami Hennegan, Dale Carrillo, Viviana Cherman, and Gina Piper.
Jim injected fun into every weekly meeting by writing new lyrics that converted popular tunes into one-of-a-kind humorous PNR classics that he sang while the club sung along.
Tom was a flawless as the club’s accountant and bookkeeper. He attended every weekly meeting to collect dues and fees and to reimburse expenses. He prepared budgets, managed the club’s bank accounts, and issued monthly financial reports to the board.
Ron successfully arranged for 39 interesting speakers who covered a wide range of always pertinent and interesting topics.
The management of the Cellar Door's deserves special thanks for beginning our demotion indoors on one of the hottest days of the year.
